Product Compliance

Product Compliance

Product Compliance enables customers to manage chemical compliance for their products, to classify products according to dangerous goods regulations, and to create safety data sheets and labels according to chemical regulations and requirements.

Here is an example of a compliance concept for a business process:
  • Purpose (Why?): Import of chemicals for industrial use to South Korea
  • Regulation (What?): Act on Registration and Evaluation, etc. of Chemical Substances (ARECS)
    • ARECS regulates the registration of new chemical substances or designated existing chemical substance in amounts exceeding one ton per year. In addition, it defines annual reporting requirements and product notification for certain hazardous chemicals.
  • Compliance requirement (How?): Check status of KECI (Korean Existing Chemicals Inventory) and PEC (priority evaluation chemicals)
    • The compliance requirement provides the status of a composition concerning KECI and PEC. The Korean Existing Chemicals Inventory (KECI) is the national inventory of Korea. Substances not listed on KECI need to be registered as new chemicals according to ARECS. The priority existing chemicals (PECs), selected from KECI, manufactured or imported at or over one ton per year, are required to be registered following ARECS.
The compliance requirement includes the respective list data and logic to provide the status of a mixture concerning these lists.

A compliance pattern determines which types of compliance information is relevant for a compliance requirement and how the system propagates this information to related objects. A compliance pattern may also determine to which types of objects a purpose based on the corresponding compliance requirement may be assigned.

Product Compliance Relevance in Material Master

In the compliance view of the material master, it is specified if a material needs compliance validation or not, or if the decision is not yet made. Several compliance requests start here.

Product Compliance Data in Sales and Delivery

Integration of compliance information into sales and delivery means the following:
Only those materials that are marked in the material master as valid for compliance checks are taken into account.

For compliance-relevant materials, compliance checks run in sales and delivery documents. Depending on the kind of documents, the system issues warnings or blocks items or entire documents.

Sales representatives can request a marketability status for a material when they want to sell it in a country/region where no current marketability assessment for the material exists.

Product Marketability in Sales Processes

If a product has been marked as relevant for compliance in the product master, the system checks marketability data in real time as an internal sales representative is creating or editing a sales document and determines item and header status as described below.
  • If the item is not compliance relevant, the system allows further processing of the item.
  • If the item is approved or approved as exemption, the system allows further processing of the item.
  • If the item is not approved as exemption, not marketable, or has a decision pending, the item is blocked.

Dangerous Goods in Sales Processes

If a product has been marked as relevant for compliance in the product master, the system checks dangerous goods data in real time as an internal sales representative is creating or editing a sales document. If an item in the sales document has been classified as a dangerous good, the system also checks if all necessary dangerous goods data is available, and whether transportation of the product is allowed, forbidden, or restricted. Depending on the outcome of this check, the system sets the corresponding status for the item. Based on the item status, the system also sets a status for the whole sales document in the header of the document.

Safety Data Sheet Management in Sales Processes

If a product has been marked as relevant for compliance in the product master, the system checks safety data sheet data when an internal sales representative saves a sales document and determines item and header status as described below.
