TM: Freight Order Management

You can use the business documents in freight order management to enter all the information required for transportation planning and execution, such as source and destination locations, dates/times, product information, and resources used.

You can create freight orders directly or in transportation planning. For example, you can assign freight units to the freight orders and have the system calculate the transportation charges.

Freight order

Order for which execution is planned by a carrier or the shipper. Use freight orders primarily for land transportation (road freight order) and rail transportation.

Customizing

Integration settings
  • Define freight order types and assign valid item types and event codes to them.

Order type determination

The system determines freight order types in one of the following ways:

  • If you create freight orders during planning and have configured the respective settings in the planning profile (Business Document Type area), the system determines the freight order type according to your settings.
  • If you create freight orders from your forwarding order stages, the system uses the freight order type that you have defined in the Customizing activity Define Default Capacity Document Types for Stages.
  • If freight units are converted into freight orders when direct shipment options (DSO) are determined, the system uses the freight order type that you specified for DSO in the freight unit type.
  • The system uses the default freight order type that you define in this Customizing activity.
